Midweek Encouragement: An Unlikely Competitor

I recently stumbled across the legendary story of Cliff Young. I was amazed how this unlikely competitor turned the running world upside down. God loves to use the “unlikely competitor” to do great things for His glory! Today I proudly stand as an unlikely competitor toeing the line of my next big race! 2013 HERE I COME! I hope you enjoy Cliff Young’s story as much as I did!   Cliff Young Every year, Australia hosts 543.7-mile (875-kilometer) endurance racing from Sydney to Melbourne. It is considered among the world’s most grueling ultra-marathons. The race takes five days to complete and is normally only attempted by world-class athletes who train specially for the event. These athletes are typically less than 30 years old and backed by large companies such as Nike. In 1983, a man named Cliff Young showed up at the start of this race. Cliff was 61 years old and wore overalls and work boots. To everyone’s shock, Cliff wasn’t a spectator. He picked up his race number and joined the other runners. Midweek Encouragement: Stop Trashing Yourself

I flagged this daily devotional email back in September. It ministered to me then and it is ministering to me now!  I’m figuring out how to admit my failings and accept my failures without totally trashing my confidence! We are all still a work in progress. Sign up for daily devotionals from Proverbs 31 Ministries at www.proverbs31.org. I love my daily devotionals from this ministry! How To Stop Trashing Yourself September 12, 2012 By Renee Swope How To Stop Trashing Yourself “So do not throw away your confidence;   it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done   the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.” Hebrews   10:35-36 (NIV) One night I was cleaning our kitchen and found this little   rubber thingy on our countertop. It wasn’t until after I threw it away that I   realized it was the power button for our TV remote control. As I dug through   the trash to find it, I regretted how quickly I’d thrown it away. Then, as I reached to pull it out, I sensed God showing me   that’s how easily I throw away my confidence—without recognizing it. Click here to read more.   Share...

Midweek Encouragement

Here is some midweek encouragement compliments of Proverbs 31 Ministries http://www.proverbs31.org/devotions/i-dont-have-what-it-takes-2012-09/   But I Don’t Have What It Takes “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV) “You don’t belong here, boy. You don’t have anything worth saying to these people.” You’d think a pastor about to preach to thousands of people eagerly awaiting his message would feel confident and courageous as he walks to the pulpit. But as I stepped out on stage, I literally had to talk to myself aloud to drown out the voice inside me telling me I didn’t have what it takes.
